The 3.0 software upgrade is great but the new iphone is a bit of a disapointment in my opinion. I don't see any reason for someone like myself who owns a 3g iphone to upgrade, I think apple could have done better.

Awesome update for those of us on the iPhone 2G. 3G + all the bits it should have had last year.

Remembering most people on a 3G contract are signed up for 2 years, Apple wouldn't be as stupid to release anything too new and radical... Wait till next year.

Yeah i am hanging to format my phone and put 3.0 on
its running like shit atm , And lots of apps i cant use becuase phone has been jail broken lol.

Bummer - I just bought a 3G iPhone 2 weeks ago (upgrading from the 2G) :(
The new one doesn't seem to have that much more other than the better camera, voice recognition and digital compass, OS 3.0 on the 3G will make me happy anyway.

Not enough in the 3G S for me to warrant an upgrade. iPhone OS 3.0 looks promising though.

How to install IPhone Software 3.0 for 3G Phones ONLY

Download File from Here:

Make sure you have the latest Copy of Itunes 8.2

Connect IPhone.

Windows.
Hold Shift click restore, find file you downloaded and run.

Mac
Hold Alt click restore, find file you downloaded and run.

DO NOT DISCONNECT IPHONE
This is the GM Edition, No activation required etc etc.
Takes about 5 – 10min to install from start to finish.

This is a GM release. Its the full release so that developers can get there apps fixed ready for the Public release.

My iPhone is working with this installed and cant fault it. :)

in 1 week you can just restore with the public release once its available.

going to download this at home and have a play around tonight if i get time.

dont think ill be upgrading either, the camera isnt a massive thing for me and 3.0 firmware will do most of what apple is saying about the 3GS.

hold you for a massive upgrade next year i think.

And even then the phones with much bigger cameras tend to have tiny little plastic lenses so they still give very average pictures.

Its not my primary cam, though I would rather pull it out to capture something going on or mms pic worthy, when I cant be stuffed getting out my SLR!

Can you choose mp3 as ring tone or still have to use iringer.

saying that iringer is better anyway as you can choose the part of the song you want.

people signed two year contracts

wait 12 monts, the next one will be epic, just in time for everyone to upgrade to the new version :)

New version coming out also will mean the price of the current model will drop substancially. Who wants to sell me theirs cheap when they upgrade? :D

I ended up getting it from a torrents site that a few others got it from.

I only installed it last night, so havent had a big play around yet, but it does seem a little quicker?

I downloaded the torrent from Mininova and installed it last night. No problems with the install and definitely liking some of the new features.

Love the recent dialled list - You can drill down and see incoming/outgoing as well as call lengths. Quite useful imho!

Landscape SMS is a little funny for me but I'll get the hang of it.

I'm a big fan the search too, pity it doesn't seem to index your text messages.

How are you guys fairing?

No carrier has released prices on the new 3G S as yet.

Its still 2 weeks away from release so i'm sure plans and prices will be available in the next week or 2

My guess is not much different to the current plans just a bit more expensive for the iphone payments for the 32GB version

is there anyway to save an MMS message?

a friend has sent me a short audio clip, i can play it, but would like to save it, or maybe even forward to an email?

I can copy the text within the message, but not the actual attachment.

Any ideas?

I've also downloaded the 3.0 GM and the only reason I haven't installed is a small section of terms and conditions given to the Devs when it was released stating that once you load this firmware onto a phone, it will not allow "retail" firmware to be loaded later. Could be a load of horse shit, but not worth the risk opposed to waiting another week. However, I am more than happy to be proven wrong :)

I have gone from 3.0 back to 2.2.1 and back to 3.0 with no problems at all.
