Nice work. I used to work for Komatsu and some of the returned reman engines that I had come in were crazy. When they let a rod go they really let them go...

Denver 26-07-2009 09:52 PM

what hitachi was that from, 5500?

MKVIGTI 26-07-2009 09:58 PM

Yea. EX5500 Digger. Right engine.

Never felt or heard a thing. Charge light came on then stop engine but tacho was already on zero.

One of the long timers here reckons it is the 5th engine in 24000 hours. Got to love Cummins lifetime Warranty :D :D :D

Denver 26-07-2009 09:59 PM

jesus, thats less than 5000 hours a motor, thats pretty poor performance..

cummins must be losing a bomb

I did something similar when I worked underground as a dump truck driver, brand new 769C on it's second shift, I think we were supposed to keep it under 1,700rpm from memory (30yrs ago lol) I had it screaming down the decline at just over 2,300rpm and fucking KABOOM, chucked a leg out of bed with about 12hrs on it..........they tried to blame me but I swore it never went over 1,600rpm lol
Another time I was driving one of the older 769's and hit a huge pot hole at speed and the top of the shock absorber blew off snapping about 20 bolts & the top plate about 2cm thick hit directly below my seat, loudest thing I've ever heard or felt, lucky they had a thick floor & sprung seats.

Its a funny thing seeing, and whilst they are only mini dumpies, 2 150 tonners T-bone each other....lol!

Nice work we had pretty much the same thing happen on a 5500 shovel then a couple of weeks later she almost went again.
