No. They piss off at lunch time, then charge "call out"

Yeah, we worked half day on xmas eve last year and had the office lunch/piss up in the arvo. Work won't get done whether you're open or not so we decided to shut shop on 23rd this year.

in mining it doesn't matter what day it is. I worked nightshift for christmas last year, I'll probably be rostered on again this year. If im not I will most likely be asked to cover for someone else who is taking leave to be with their family.

When I was working retail though - yes I worked christmas eve and it was damn busy!

depends on the business doesnt it? retail, tourism, food services etc work right up to xmas eve but tradies, some do half day xmas eve some finish a couple of days before. Also I know for some it depends where it fell, eg if xmas was tuesday they wouldnt bother coming in for just a monday they'd call it quits friday.

fwiw my hubby has worked the last 3 xmas' (fifo) so having to work xmas eve isnt so bad ..... nothing a can of harden the fuk up wont fix

Im with Blacksti, mining industry doesnt care for it, but the commercial industry i work in (same company) does. Really depends where you work. I took 3 weeks off when i was sposed to be on a 4on 1 off roster (weeks that is). Little to say they made me stay in the god damn pilbra for near on 50 days straight for my next stint......hell on earth, but it was definatley worth it, for various reasons in Perth.
