Default "REDUCE SPEED" signs... WTF

These signs have me perplexed. Exactly what do they mean ?

Don't say "They mean slow down", because thats what speed zone
signs are for.

My problem is this.
1. Cruising the highway in a 110 zone.
2. See a sign that says "Reduce Speed"
3. Get confused because the posted limit is still 110... WTF ?

If I don't slow down, then am I breaking the law ?
If I am breaking the law, then what sort of "speeding fine" do I get
in a 110 zone if I keep doing 110 past the sign ?

Basically for all intensive purposes I can see that they have no use.
If you want me to slow down, put up temp 80 zone signs.

I would be very keen to hear the members who are police to give
their thoughts.

From Main Roads Wa:
"Safety standards and regulations require Main Roads staff and contractors to erect warning signs – often including speed reduction signs – whenever roadway changes occur or road works are underway.

The signs might highlight changes to road conditions (eg slippery or “loose stones” road surfaces, a drop off at the road edge) or have been erected in preparation for road works to begin."

maybe its just a reminder, for a 110 zone? i guess it is easy for people to just cruise along and lose their concentration and accidentally speed?

That makes sense, but it is still not enforcable in any way. If I elect
to ignore the sign and keep doing 110, then nobody can give
me a speeding fine as the posted limit has not changed. Its a stupid
and pointless sign.

If it is a warning, then it should be yellow like the yellow recommended
speed signs for corners etc.

don't they usually have those 'reduce speed' signs at the end of the freeway or when you are about to go up an off ramp? Perhaps signalling in that instance to reduce speed as you are about to exit the freeway.

I wonder what the insurance company's policies are if you come off the road doing 110 just after one of those signs?........Driving without due caution?

Without any speed sign behind them, be it a temporary speed sign at roadworks or reduction in the form of a permanent speed sign (as seen on freeway exits) they don't mean jack shit. Only actual speed signs are enforcible.

FYI the speed limit cant be reduced by any more than 30kph in one go for roadworks. Also, reduce speed signs aren't mandatory in any existing speed zone below 70kph.
