Lucky for me I was next to another car and never received a ticket

it wasnt one of those ones that take photos from the rear was it?

They put the red lights on as it doesnt impair your vision thats adjusted to low light. if it was any other colour your pupils would shrink and youd go pretty much blind in the dark, and something else to do with the receptors at the back of your eye.
