Default Sydney/Melb Hotels

Hey guys, just booked tickets to Sydney and Melb for new years, will be in Sydney until the 2nd and then Melb to the the 5th and now need to decide what hotels will be the best to stay at for a decent price.

Any help would be appreciated never been to Sydney so im not sure on the areas and what not, somewhere close to the City would be good.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Novotel Brighton Le Sands was great the few times I've stayed there, 5kms from airport too.

^^^ Not very close to the city but nice beaches and cafe etc...

If you want to stay in the city and you are only there for a few days try the hilton or Holiday Inn both of which are smack bang in the middle of the CBD.

Mirvac Citigate is ok for a run of the mill no frills hotel.

Personally i like Sheraton on the Park‎ & Four Seasons Hotel.

Went up the east coast earlier this year.

Melbourne - Stayed in Mantra on the Park. Was nice and clean, relatively cheap as well. Was pretty close to most things, and everything else was just a tram ride as well.

Sydney - Stayed at a couple of places, first night we got there we stayed at the Star City which is their casino. In my opinion it was way over priced for what it was and its location. Next place we stayed was Oaks Maestri Towers. Again nice place and reasonably priced.

You want to stay in or as close to darling harbour as possible. That's where the best night life is with clubs and eating places.

Oaks is just out of Darling Harbour so close enough to walk to Darling Harbour for dinner everynight, but just outside of it so you don't pay the high premium on accommodation!

Also worth a drive up to the Blue Mountains whilst your there!
