I was reading this before on the net.
They claim there are more people involved & should find them soon.
Did the banks end up giving the money to those who had it stolen?

From what I was aware a number of Maccas staff were involved in the scam as well. This could have something to do with the claimed others getting in on it.

Eftopos machine

Police allege EFTPOS machines were tampered with.

A 36-year-old British man has appeared briefly in the Perth Magistrates Court over what is believed to be Australia's biggest EFTPOS scam.

Elangovan Ganeshamoorthy has been charged with conspiracy to defraud over a skimming operation which targeted more than 20 McDonalds stores in Perth.

It is alleged he and another man went to the stores, replaced the key pads on the EFTPOS machines and stole the personal identification numbers of more than 4,000 people.

Police allege the details were used to steal more than $4 million from ATM's around the world.

In court today, Mr Ganeshamoorthy made no application for bail and was remanded to appear in court again on January 22.

His co-accused, 31-year-old Canadian RugShanth Selvarajah faced court in Sydney and will be extradited to WA tomorrow.
I actually still had the page open in a tab

They were probably seen.. They more than likely used social engineering to gain access and 'service the machines'.

When they handed the keypads to them in the car, they tampered with it whilst someone else in the car distracted the Macca's chick/pimple-head with another order whilst at the window.

Even easier - just swap their modified keypad with the macca's one while it's in the car. It's only one of those pissy little phone plug connectors, like an ethernet cable only smaller. Take the newly acquired keypad home, modify that, on to the next maccas. Easy.

Cheers,

Wrxpc
