100 more females then males so that means there would be atleast 150-200 employees? everyone donate 20 bucks or so and you will have over 5k

depends on where you are located, see if you can do a sausage sizzle. A bank near my old work did one and raised heaps for charity just prior to christmas.

The bank is in Osborne park and they just printed out a stack of flyers and handed them out to local businesses. Trade/factory/office type people eat heaps.

Look at it this way.

$5000 = 5000 items at $1
= 2500 items at $2
= 1000 items at $5

If you are selling something (and if you are going with the suasage sizzle idea you may even be able to hit up some suppliers for free/discounted products) you need to look at volume. Will you be able to sell X amount of units to make the money you require?

Another option is to have an auction. Hit up some celebs or other local businesses for items and auction them off. This doesn't take too much effort (in terms of cooking etc), just planning. Or run the auction in conjunction with a quiz night and there you have it. $10 per person and then make the remainder of the money from the auction.

Without knowing what your company does, it is quite difficult to suggest any further ideas.

We did a carwash for charity at our work... raised $1600, only $5 a wash (with donations), and another store did $2100 with $10 washes....
Our store also did internal fundraising (from staff etc) which included a raffle (for paid time off etc) and one of those 'guess how many jellybeans etc'
Together with collection boxes which we pushed pretty hard, our store raised just under 5 grand in under a month

I also did scouts when I was young, and we did BBQs quite well, pulled in a few grand each hit.

The key is pushing it hard, through marketing and exposure, and giving it a friendly, fun vibe.
