Default Immigration to Australia

I have been asked on another forum by an American about immigration to Australia. I was wondering if there were some online guides that I could steer him towards to help answer some of his questions.

Here's an excerpt of a message I sent to him -

Quote:
To the best of my knowledge there are a couple of different work visa's. One that is geared towards people visiting and wanting to work during a visit, then there's one that entails permanent immigration, and I believe it is this type of visa that requires "visa sponsorship". in other words, an employer has to have a job/position for this person, and the employer takes on certain responsibilties pertaining to the person immigrating.

When it comes to the cost of living, crime, etc, I'm not to sure how to answer that.

I know that the industry in the state that I live is in need of skilled installers, but, bear in mind I also live in the most isolated capital city in the world (Perth, Western Australia).
The eastern side of australia is more densely populated and has more states and cities grouped together. I have lived in New South Wales (capital city Sydney), and I loved it. Some people prefer Queensland, others Victoria etc. They all have distinctive climates and styles of culture.

And here's some further correspondence from him -

Quote:

I know you said you can't really answer the cost of living, etc. Was just wondering if you could give an example of "standard" pay there compared to housing costs? I mean, how much is a "decent" 3 or 4 bedroom house in your area? What sort of salary do "most" people make in your area...regardless of profession. I understand some professions pay more than others, but just wondering if there is an "average" pay range? Around here, an average household will make between 35-65k a year depending on whether both adults are working (or just the man or just the woman).
I'm guessing there must be some relevant information available online. And I'm know there are members on here who have immigrated, maybe you guys can help me out.

I'm pretty sure an immigration agent could answer some of his
questions but I'd say ask good ole American Dave as he would
know a fair bit about this situation.

you need to do a test if I'm correct: who's Don Bradman, how many centuries he scored, what does chucking a sickie mean and why shouldn't you buy anything of Krystian90....

http://www.immi.gov.au/

everything you need to know.

but it sounds like he wants you to tell him that everyone is making 100k a year and living in 4x2 mansions next to the beach which cost 500k.

Australia has its good and bad points, and I should really get my arse into gear and get PR.
