Pre-Employment Audiometric test - anybody done one?
Im about to start a new job, however they have requested I do a Audiometry test @ Gemini Medical
Im abit worried about this, as when I was younger - I think I did damage to my ears due to playing drums loud with no hearing protection. I know that my ears cannot handle very high frequency sound.. Im wondering whats involved for those people that have done it? Should I be concerned? |

You get put in a sound proof room they put headphones on you a play different noises/frequencies an you have to hit a button when you hear them.
Depending on the job its usually just so they have a record of your hearing so you cant sue them for going deaf once you leave.

It is just done as a baseline test - so that you can't claim work related hearing damage in 5 years time.
Have done the test a few times. They just sit you in booth with headphones & play various frequency tones at low to very low levels. Don't sweat it, it's mandatory for most construction & mining jobs these days, and some of our guys are deaf as posts.

If its anything like hearingwa, then theyll stick you in a booth, with headphones on and ask you when you can hear a noise, will be very faint at first. should be no cause for concern, they go through quite a few of these tho, and different frequencies. i found out that i have very acute hearing in high frequency, but not as great in the lows, i passed overall, but i suppose everyones body is different

If you're going for one of these, your new job obviously involves noisy environments (as mentioned above, they don't want you sueing them, thus the reason for the test).
Sooo, its recommended you wear hearing protection AT ALL TIMES to prevent further degradation of hearing.. you've not done so in the past but its a good idea to start now. |

It's best to do the test early in the morning before being exposed to any loud noises.eg: if you work in a noisy enviorment get your test done before work, keep the stereo cranked down & dont ride your hog with straight through exhaust to the testing centre.

Just press the button randomly if you don't hear anything, then if the result says you have great hearing, then sue in 5 years for loss of hearing... win, win!
