Question help locating hosts file in vista?

hi guys, couldnt be bothered signing up to a computer forum for one problem , so thought id check if anyone knew here first...

Ok i am running windows vista and am trying to locate the hosts file.

I have done research on the net but no help.

if i go too: localdisk (C) /windows/system32/drvstore

All that is located the is :
pccsmcfd_4A1E30386F4D0DEC8F5DF262CFBD8845EEBAB175

in that folder is : PCCSMCFD - security catalog
pccsmfd - setup information
pccsmcfd.sys - system file

I did find a site which said to use the cmd.exe i did and followed the instructions and got this.......

Any help would be appreciated. Has it been deleted or modified? or is it hidden?? (i have tried to check boxes that say show hidden files but no luck..)

This has been doing my head in since last night and have been trying for agesssss to find it.

Hey,

This is related to security and UAC in Vista/Windows 7; By default, if you try to modify your hosts file in Vista, it will not let you save it. It tells you that you don't have permission. To successfully modify the hosts file, run notepad.exe as an administrator and open the file.

1) Browse to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
2) Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"
3) Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt
4) Click File -> Open
5) Browse to "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc"
6) Change the file filter drop down box from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files (*.*)"
7) Select "hosts" and click "Open"
8) Make the needed changes and close Notepad. Save when prompted.

Cheers
