Default Towing Weights

Peoples,

I am trying to find the calculation on how the towing weights for vehicles are calculated.

Basically we have won a new job and they have specified a whole heap of equipment that we have to supply. It is very specific in terms of all the options etc that the gear has to have but in some ways they have not looked at all the options.

The main one is they want a 30hp tractor (which will weigh about 950kgs) to tow 7 ton. Now it might be able to tow it but it will never stop it.

I am not worried about the difference between on road / off road etc but I know there is a calculation based on the total weight of the vehicle but for the life of me I cant work it out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Brendon

Hope that helps a bit Brendon. What model tractor ? as I know a 40hp tractor has towed 4.5 tons easily and stopped reasonably easy too.

Cheers

Thanks for that.

I have an old massey 35 (circa 1945) that is an absolute weapon and would have no issues putting 4 ton behind it. I also have some of the new 30 - 35 hp tractors that only weigh 900 kg's with hydrostatic transmissions etc and there is no weigh (pun intended) that I would put 2 ton behind it. I think it could tow it but tyring to pull it up on a downhill damp grass fairway. Good luck with that.

I have finally got some info from Kubota and I have a meeting with these kids later this week to try and sort it out.
