Supposedly avoiding nuts, coffee and increasing your dairy intake helps with the itching. Also cooling the skin to stop irritation. Im sure there is some cream's that you could get from your doctor/chemist to help.

phenergan (i think thats how you spell it)
5mg tablets if your under 65kg
10mg if your over 65kg.
Be aware these make you quite drowsy but should last 24 hours so take them at night and you should be fine. They are available over the counter at most pharmacy's.

when i was going through the worst of my burns recovery these were the only things that worked to stop the itching. Mind you i was on the prescription only 20mg tablets, and they put me out like a light!

putting oats in a stocking and let it steep in a bath of water for a bit before hopping in also squeeze it over you whilst in the bath. I used to use it on my boys with their eczema did wonders. If you can stand the mess i also made up a "paste" with the oats and put it on the skin its very soothing and calming to the skin. You poor thing i hope this could help...?

EDIT: sorry i just realised you posted this yesterday so my feedback probably won't help

Ouch, had a dose myself last year. Agony.
I'm allergic to Doctor medicines and used Homeopathic remedies. Worked a treat.
There is a cream made from cucumbers that is recommended at chemists. Mum used it when she had them. Said it gave instant relief. I can find out the name of it for you in the morning if you like. It costs about $50 a tube ok.
As previously said, back off coffee. Tea is soothing and healing.
Have you had your eyes checked by an eye specialist? Its urgent that you do ok. If the blisters end up on your eyes it can blind you without treatment. I couldn't see that I had any on my right eye but the specialist did.
Whatever caused you to get shingles needs to be backed off while your healing too. The more your under stress or whatever the more painful they are. Thats talking from experience.
What stage are you at with them? It varies (pain) depending where its at.
Best wishes with them healing fast.
Nat

I had shingles about 15 years ago - antihistamines are the go.
