Thinking of a 2010/11 Golf TDi 2.0

After spending the last few months driving a new Ford Focus diesel around the uk, and loving the ease of daily driving (i was getting around 700 miles per tank!), i wanna upgrade!

new MKVI golfs I like. GTi's are nice but if i was to spend bulk coin on a performance car, then honestly it wont be a golf...

I got my eye on a white 5 door MKVI, leather/sports seats + sunroof & HIDs also DSG transmission.
Not keen on sat nav or stereo as i'l get those aftermarket anyway.

Wouldnt plan on doing much to it (rims, tint & flash tune)

the 2.0ltr TDi's are managing around 130kw & 400nm on a revo tune for example... I like the sound of that.

Whats your thoughts?
Or have I cooked it/

cool little cars, protohoare took his old mans down to busselton, across to albany and back on a single tank last year, with the power to overtake quite easily

Marty (SKIHIONPSI) has just recently got the earlier generation one. I'm sure he can give you his 0.02c input.

Why do u want a TDI for economy or for the torque?

I've got a mkV GT sport TDi, love the car. Awesome on fuel and still have enough power to overtake easily/have some decent spirited driving. The torque is great, comes on from almost as soon as you take your foot off the brake/onto the go pedal. It peaks early around 2,250rpm but you can pull right through to 4,000rpm which is where the power (125kw) peaks.

Bluefin do tunes for these which are quite decent, and well priced. I believe this should bump it up to around 147kW/420nM which is well into V8 territory in terms of torque.

All of the forester guys rag on me about it, but i don't care. Diesel is cheaper than U98 petrol....

EDIT: I'm taking it (standard) to a skid pan day next weekend, can let you know how it goes compared with my old XT forester.

I'd say get one then.

I can't wait to get my tune, which will increase both dramatically!

My wife has the previous model Tdi, great car, fantastic economy & enough torque to tow the trailer with my mini.

That said, the new petrol versions are that good you'd have to be doing taxi driver kms to recover the extra cost of the diesel car. If you do go for the Tdi, go the DSG - we have the 6 speed and although I love manuals, it is just too much cog swapping.

If i end up with one it wont be flashed till after warranty anyway which by then im sure there will be much more options. Cheers for the info, do you have the leather/sport seats?

Yeah I was about to say the GT (1.4l SC & TC) is pretty economical itself, you add the extra fuel used when you chip the TDI there can't be much in it?
