I'm not actually sure. I haven't used street view to a great extent on the iPhone. To know how much data it uses. But I am sure someone on here wil be able to give you an idea.

But as others have said unless you have to get it now wait for the next version iPhone to come out next month. It has quite a few significant upgrades that will make it's use a lot smoother and easier.

I have a 3GS, best phone I have had ever, bar none! My life wouldn't be complete with out it... and I'm no apple fan boy. I hate itunes and I have never been an Apple fan, never owned an iPod before this phone, but I couldn't function without it! I would, like others have said, hold off and get the 4.0 when it comes out, you'd be silly not to!

As for the plan's and data. I am with optus.. haven't had really man issues with coverage. I am about to move to Butler, so we will see how reception is when I move there next week, and obviously, out of Perth Metro, it's crap, but thats nothing to do with the phone. I am on the Optus iPhone $59 cap. I pay $10 a month for the handset (bought the 3GS when it came out, so it wasn't free on the cap yet) and I get 750mb worth of data. I use google maps (not earth / street view) sometimes in the car when im driving (use it as a GPS) and I hammer facebook like its going out of fashion, perth-wrx, etc etc and I the most I have used in a month is 110mb I think. Altho I do have wireless at home, so obviously, when I am at home, im browsing on that.

As for the battery life, I find it pretty crappy, but still, it does everything, im always using it, so i expect it to be. I have a usb charger at work for it, obviously i charge it every night too at home whilst im sleeping, and my car stereo is an iPod only digital head unit, so it has a cable to the phone, which also charges it when im on the go... so on an avg day, if i charge it over night, and then use it all day (as a phone.. ie: not playing music off it) I usually throw it on the charger when I go to bed with around 40% battery left.

i've got 3g phone they're awesome but want 4g

telstra got best coverage and speed but pricey. it would depend where you live and work or spend most of your time on what network to choose.
if money not problem go telstra other wise go with someone cheaper.

i'm with vodafone coverage not the best but good around city's fairly cheap

One thing i hate about iphone is that you can never see attachments on email and cant view pdfs.. Apart from the thing crashing all the time...

I can view pdfs on mine? Can see certain attachments but not all.

Attachments are at the bottom of your email and I know I've just opened a word doc and a pdf this morning on mine.

Telstra is not that expencive with the new cap plans that came out a few weeks ago and data is now included in the plans too. You will deffinately get better coverage and much faster data speeds. To get the most out of any smartphone you should be on Telstra network.

Telstra tried to rape me for $2200 in extra charges. had to take it to the telecommunications industry ombudsman, and nearly went to court because telstra changed their billing system and forgot to credit me the cap amount.

They may have the best reception but they have the worst data plans, charge the most and will bend you over and fuck you hard if your not checking your bills with a magnifying glass.

Oh and then theres the worst customer service i have ever experienced. ever
