Default Santos Great Bike Ride

I'd never heard of this before but I've decided to put my name down this year:

http://www.greatbikeride.com.au/

It's a 10, 53 or 106km ride around the Swan River to raise funds for several worthwhile charities. 21/11/2010.

Some of the keen bike people on pwrx probably already know about it but I thought I'd mention it. I'm going to try the 53k ride (otherwise I'll need lights on the bike as I stumble home after dark.)

I've done the 53 before. Is awesome. quite a few woodducks out there though and very hard to form any sort of a group to get a rhyth going. Heaps better than the freeway bike hike.

Much more interesting and a couple of small hills aswell.

Curse that hill in Peppermint Grove, I like how they positioned photographers at the top of that hill. They must have got a shot of about 90% of participants pushing their bikes.

Cheers Brendon, have really only just built the bike and picked cycling back up. Have mainly been into MTB for the last few years and have my dually for the bush and my old hardtail converted to running on slicks for the tarmac stuff. The slick shod MTB goes well but nowhere near as nice as a roadie. Got a bit over the MTB effort. Drive an hour into the bush, then the fun bit, then another hour home and another 30 mins washing the shite off your bike and cleaning it. With the roadie, straight out the front door.

Am trying to do one or two 30k ish short sharp ones during the week where possible and do something more around 50-60 on the weekends if I can. But work generally gets in the way so just fitting in what i can where i can. The mild winter has been good. Bit fresh but dry.

Brett, I havent been into the roadies for long, mainly been the MTB stuff. Hearing you though on a relatively cheap habit. Dont mind spending a couple $ on a decent bike as they serve you well in the long run. As you point out, wheels are a little heavy, but they look bling and do seem to work well once you wind them up. All the gear and no idea!!! Thats how I roll!!

Did the cyclo sportif with my missus, Dan Carson and another mate in a team of 4. Came 3rd in group B apparently. (Team Double Affogato FTW!!...thats the team name lol. ) Very surprising as there were some hardcore looking crews there and we did suffer a flat, although much like the Perth Bike Ride, it isnt a competitive event, more just something to give you a reason to do some training. Everyone on the day is very friendly and helpful. (ie checking if you need help fixing flats etc...)

Be good to get a good "peleton" going for the Perth Bike Ride. P-WRX freight train!!!

Also am looking to do the Waroona event. (Cyclo Sportif) I think we have about 4 or 5 starters so far, but you can run up to 9 in one team. Let me know if anyone is keen. Sounds like there will be some hills, but should be a good day. Will be looking to go B distance again. (Approx 60-70km)

Fizik Arione FTW. Not too bad for comfort given the lack of actual seat you get Upgraded the knicks as well which has made a nice difference.

Definately up for smashing out the 100km in the Santos.

have you got a road bike or on the mtb?

I bought the aliante. the Arione is supposedly for 'snakes' and the aliante is for 'bulls'. still just under 200 grams though so still pretty light.

Finally relented and got a roadie. Built up a Bianchi 928 piece by piece. Much nicer thing than my hardtail MTB for long road rides.

Sounds like I should be on the Aliante. At 87kg, I am not what you would describe as a snake.
