The person who told you this information obviously belongs to the NON APPLE JIHAD and should be reported to your local FBI office urgently.

You can use all of your own music and dont even have to use itunes if you dont want to. (but you would be mad if you didnt use itunes as it is a fuckn awesome piece of software)
