I'm trying to think of what i need from the USA, and there isn't much.. and I'm not going to spend money just because things are cheap, if I really don't need em. Apart from coffee machines (which are mostly 110V anyway so its a FAIL in many circumstances unless they're dual voltage), and a few random bits and pieces I need from Kartboy, everything I really want comes out of Japan!! |

Would have thought the German stuff would be more related to the Aussie/Euro cross rate.
Over the last 4 months there has only been a couple of percent change despite a couple of big swings. Dealers will be loving it to much to drop the price!!!

Oil price is in USD.. exchange rate is favourable, oil price is half what it was at one stage around 2 years ago... and yet fuel is still $1.29 most days.

I guess what I mean is with all the news coverage of this and talk of buying overseas, more people are going to be exposed to American car prices. E350 Sedan - AU$114k list price ($143k drive away in Perth) E350 Sedan - US$49.4k MSRP Given that 1USD = 1AUD, justifying a 230% increase in the cost of a vehicle just to "protect" the Commodores and Falcons is starting to get a bit over the top. Heck even the Japanese cars... MY11 STi Sedan - AU$67,948 RRP MY11 STi Sedan - US$33,995 MSRP Again a 200% markup. I know there is more to the pricing structure, but its some food for thought.

Trust me I wholly agree we get totally fisted on the price of most things compared to the rest of the world.
Reckon a lot of the Aussie distributors of products that can be sourced from the US are going to have to have a more reasonable expectation of pricing in the near future.

Is importing a car from America the same process as it would be from Japan?

See how much our Aussie cars cost overseas too..
A Pontiac G8 - $27,595 to $29,995 RRP in USD, in the USA A VE SS - $46k to $52k RRP in AUD, here in Australia, depending on spec. |

If the car is sold domestically here, you will pay import duties. A way around this is by taking the an axle out of the car and importing it as "parts" But then you have to deal with licensing. All in all, a head nick. EDITED: due to lack of coffee |
