Wifi routers
Guys/girls I'm just moving house and want to setup several wifi spots through the house. I'm running a star serve network. Is it better to have one wireless router and then have signal bumpers through the house or just run some well placed routers throughout the house instead. Up to 5 in total.
Thanks Jme

one wireless network with repeaters is what i would do.
but, you could run wireless routers though, just make sure they are on separate channels. It just depends on your budget. have a look at these guys: http://www.freenet-antennas.com/ |

If you want the best this is the way to go. Otherwise some Linksys Access Points setup on non overlapping channels placed around the house. You should run a cable to each one to get the most throughput to your wired network if you plan to stream HD video or do Voip. |

You'll have one setup as your main router for your dsl/internet connection.
The rest will be repeaters. I was considering getting the Apple Airports to do this + itunes streaming.

I've got cat 5's running to every room of the house as part of the star serve network. I'm testing it ATM and can feed the modem into the network and run a wireless router from any room. But I'm assuming in doing so, will mean several wifi networks throughout the house. Would prefer just one wifi network for the entire area.

You can set them up on the same SSID and same key, so a laptop won't know the difference.

perhaps a silly question... but how big is your house/land that you need more than one access point?

How big is your house? Surely a single Wireless N router with an upgraded antennae would do the job?

I run 3 in my house, 1 router and 2 repeaters. The main router is upstairs with the 2 repeaters being at each end of the house down stairs. It works fairly well.
