Default Explosion from the engine...

Hey all,

As some of you might know, im always around here sooking at how im stuck with my good old Ford Falcon despite a few attempts at getting a rex so far.

Im curious, just if anybody might know in general, i pulled up outside my mechanic on friday to drop my gran off to get her Holden, and my motor made this wierd bang noise and then the car started shuddering and eventually stalled and turned off (Automatic car...)

Turns out the radiator hose had clean come off the radiator... when it did im not sure. Could have been that trip.. could have been in the few days before. Needless to say been driving the car around with no cooling system whatsoever. Ford also decided for whatever reason that if theres no fluids in the cooling system the temperature guage should read NORMAL.

I know my radiator and hoses gotta be replaced, but what might the explosion have been. Is it head gasket or cylinder? AU XR6 engine time???

What model? Didn't Ford design a system that would slowly shut the car down in the even of this?

Doubt you'd have been driving around for days on end without fluids pumping through as there would have been complementary smoke bellowing out the sides of the bonnet

Is the radiator hose (either of them) split/blown a hole? It could've been the actual hose blowing out/splitting if the car was pretty hot. Hopefully your motor isn't seized

The hose had just become disconnected from the radiator, pressure buildup? Or old age of the clamp that holds it on maybe? Didnt seem like it was split but I cant say i really looked at it.

Don't they have the low water sender in the overflow bottle? should have warned you immediately.

My mechanic says theres stupidly no warning of any sort on the EF's. Very very bad design if you ask me... it would be common sense if I was designing the car. No water = Alarm Bells and Flashing Lights and a big boxing glove that shoots out and punches you in the face..

Ive never put any photos up actually now that I think about it.. I must do that sometime.

Don't think Ford are alone there, Subaru are exactly the same, it happened to me a few years ago when driving in sand, I had a slight temp spike then back to normal thinking it was the car just working a bit hard & 20min later my head gaskets were kaput, I also had the hose snap off.
