Following this with interest... The GF has a 10 year old A-Class (about to self destruct) and she's getting her 100K service done today at ABL Automotive as per the above post.. will wait and see what they are like.

Avoid Diesel Motors
Hi, Diesel Motors did not change the Atf oil and diesel filter at 120000km, both had never been changed. Excuse by manager: Was recommended but not taken up, rubbish as both recommendations do not appear in writing but lots of others are. Test drive did not lead to change of thermostat due to slow rise to 80 degrees., must be 90! Stay away!

For all you Merc lovers do your self a favour and go see Kim at Kim's Automotive Services in Bentley. The guy worked in Germany from very young age at Mercedes factory, mechanical side of things and has a vast knowledge from old school models up to current. Anyone with a Mercedes I've recommended him to never had a issue and kept going back. His mechanics have picked up a lot off him and have been there over 20 years since he opened up. What diesel motors "technicians"couldn't solve on Mercs years back they approached him as he's a guru. He'll tell you all about it, has pride in what he does and very honest. Mercs are his specialty but will do good work on anything.

+1 for the guy in myaree. Didn't know so many had family with old mercs. Just fixed my old man's 1999 C class. Dealer told him the reason it kept shutting down was because the coolant was shot. Turned out to be an intermittent crank position sensor. $100 on ebay for Bosch replacement all good. Ozbenz.com has some good info for all the different models. 85 to 90 degrees is where the thermostat regulates to I believe but who knows with old gauges.
