I've done it before. It is beyond awesome.
But, if you are in Germany, there is a HUGE motor museum in Mannheim. (This was easily the best experience of my whole trip. http://www.technik-museum.de/english
Looks like an aeroplane museum, which is it's main feature. But the cars here are beyond anything you have ever dreamed of. Awesome classic, there's even a classic ferrari display.
Give yourself a full day.
Check this photo for example. U can see in the background there is another level of cars. (Sorry, I'm getting excited just thinking about it) They had a delorean!!!

I'd make sure I rocked up there in the morning. Hahaha. We rocked up there in the afternoon & just got to do one lap.
Check the schedule to work out what day you can go on the track. We just did a casual drive around. (Like an open day) at the track.
I know you have to be careful about that as I have heard of people rocking up only to find out it has been closed off for a company to do training.
I can't really remember what was involved as one of the guys I went with did most of the talking & organising of it. (Plus it was 4 years ago)
