Trip to Europe, Nurburgring
 

OK well im planning to go to europe in mid May this year.
i'v been building up me holiday's for a while now so its gonna be EPIC!
So starting the hoilday is a 33 day contiki tour .
London to Athens, with 9 day greek island hopping can't wait :)
After that part of the holiday im going to find my owe way back to Portugal to see the family . While doing so i wanna go to place's that the tour did take me , Spain , Germany and so on...

So i'm thinking go to the NURBURGRING and have a smash at it :)
Has any one here done this before?? Any adive will be helpfull..
Basically there 2 type of events

(note this is for the 20.8 km Nordschleife and not the grand prix track )

1. Tourist Ride Nordschleife ( Open track with Car's , Bike's , vans and heaps of traffic )

2. Track Day ( basically have the tack for a day just car's and not to much traffic)

Once i have decided on what event im going to do, next will be getting a ride :D

I'v come across these guy's they seem to have a good choice of car in the garage :p

Planning the exact same thing but for August/September :)

Advice: practice, practice, practice it on GT5/other console equivalent.
You'll be able to learn the track, rather than hit it cold.
Try drive the same car in the game that you are planing to hire in real life, for even more preparation...

Yes exactly right Alex,

This track is the hardest to memorize, and that is only in the game without any traffic.

yeh nice... i have been there, but did a fast lap with sabine as the driver as part of the bmw laps thing...
it might be best doing the track day without motorbikes because whenever someone comes off the bike or crashes they close the track... i spent a full day at one of those 'open days' and the track closed about 5 times. they open it back up once its all cleared tho but be prepared for that...
there is also alot of traffic as you mentioned... however with sabine she sure made her way around them.. some times sideways :D

I'll be there for the German GP in July. Will be then spending the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights after the GP at the Nordschleife. We've booked a hotel that overlooks the old track (think you can see it in GT5 but need to confirm).
Currently looking at what race car rentals are available but beware the insurance excess's. Even a Clio RS is a 5000euro excess but a couple of companies do Suzuki Swifts with R-specs etc that are more affordable.

I did a day with the boys at RSR a couple of years ago, the are all incredible blokes and even better drivers, all ex and current race drivers. Go have a beer and meal with them at the Piston Klaus afterwards and hear some of the storys they have to tell!

I've done it before. It is beyond awesome.
But, if you are in Germany, there is a HUGE motor museum in Mannheim. (This was easily the best experience of my whole trip. [url]http://www.technik-museum.de/english[/url]
Looks like an aeroplane museum, which is it's main feature. But the cars here are beyond anything you have ever dreamed of. Awesome classic, there's even a classic ferrari display.
Give yourself a full day.
Check this photo for example. U can see in the background there is another level of cars. (Sorry, I'm getting excited just thinking about it) They had a delorean!!!

so you did a half or full day with them ???
what car did ya end up hiring ???
i understand that u have to fill the car with juice after when ya finish . but
dose it have a full tank when u start ??
