WA Road Maintenance & Safety: Direct Correlation
Not sure if anyone happened to read the article in The Sunday Times / Perth Now this weekend but I thought it was worth posting again.
http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/west...-1226000672814 A damning report for our State Government I suggest: RAC head of member advocacy Matt Brown said WA's poor road-safety record would continue unless substandard roads were identified and improved. "WA has one of the worst road-safety records in Australia and one step toward improving this is to improve the roads and intersections," Mr Brown said. "We're already playing catch-up and can't afford to fall further behind." In 2009, Auditor-General Colin Murphy released a damning report on WA's country roads, saying the network had been grossly neglected and there was a massive backlog in overdue road maintenance that would cost $800 million to complete. The report said a third of all roads were reaching replacement and Main Roads WA did not know how much longer they would last. In addition, more than a quarter of WA's roads had not been resurfaced on time and were at risk of needing expensive rebuilding. "This report demonstrates that there is a systemic failure in maintaining our road network and that failure is putting lives at risk," Mr Brown said. "Over the past 10 years, while we have experienced an unprecedented resources boom, the level of resurfacing declined by 30 per cent while rebuilding declined by 80 per cent. "It's shocking that we have wasted this opportunity to put in place a road network to take our state, its economy and its people into the future. We are not interested in apportioning blame, we are more interested in how we can work together as a community to try to fix this mess and make our roads safe for all motorists."

LOL - I saw it Dave including RAC's "send in your bad road report".
What confused me was that the maximum road length box to tick was only 10 Kms and that there was a "speed too fast" box to tick but no "speed too slow" box?

A main roads employee on the radio today said that they were allocated only 5 million a year for black spot improvements. Considering it costs 3 million to improve one intersection that is a pitifull amount.

WA Minister of Transport is now Troy "The Chair Sniffer" Buswell & WA Minister of Road Safey is Rob "The Old Knob" Johnson. Neither of these men actually drive their own car as they have government drivers and cars.
Does anybody think those two are going to care about spending whats really required on WA road maintenance ?
