Shipping from China
Need some help - looking to get some small furniture items from China however they will only send via direct container to Perth and seeing as it is 2 bedside tables the wife wants for home it hardly warrants a container.
Does anyone import from china that we can get these in a container or know of a transport company that will ship?? Any help appreciated.

Issue is this is classed as personal effects unless you can bring it in under an ABN.
I can point you in the right direction... PM me.. (I work for a freight company). |

Actually I was just thinking about the above.. Don't bother PM'ing Brew or myself.. this will be a courier sized shipment and we both work in Freight Forwarding (specialise in larger bulk shipments).
Get them to DHL/Fedex or TNT to quote the job for you. LCL Seafreight has a minimum of 1m3/1000kg's which I highly doubt 2 x bedside tables will be. Couriers are set up for this sort of thing, so just get the dimensions and get a quote. Length x Width x Height and weight. If you have no luck call Wayne Ennis @ Austmail and say Mitch referred you.. he has corporate accounts with all the large courier companies and can look after you. His number is 041 102 7900 Good Luck. |

Yep Fedex or DHL, Fedex is generally the cheaper one of the 2 and EMS has shipping weight restrictions of 30kg an item so they will be a no go.

^^^ As suggested Shane. Definately look into one of the economical air freight options. shipping of relatively small items can result in an absolute arse raping at this end once you cover off the port fees etc. Dont ask me how I know

To give you an idea... landing costs for LCL are about as follows (Less than a container Load)
1m3 = AUd $ 480.00 2m3 = AUD $ 580.00 3m3 = AUD $ 690.00 4m3 = AUD $ 820.00 And so on.... Many Chinese suppliers will offer very cheap freight rates but (CIF/C&F) Only to Fremantle port... in cases like this the local agent will need to recover the costs in their port/local charges.. therefore you will see even higher local charges than above. It's all about rebates and kickbacks for the Chinese, so if they can fill a container the Australian agent will pay them a rebate for the cargo (they can usually make a killing on the local charges)... Oh, and I forgot to mention.. as soon as you mention Personal Effects, you can safely double your freight costs.. most people charge through the roof to move it because of all the farting around.

Cheers for the replies.
Yes I can bring it in under my ABN so that is not an issue. I was thinking more along the lines of maybe someone has a container coming already that I can get these put into. But I will look into Fedex etc

ABN = WIN
Unfortunately it's not that easy, customs won't allow you to just put the cargo in somebody else’s container unless the shipment is registered separately. All freight companies can offer a consolidation service (as mentioned above LCL) however the minimum charge is for 1m3 and I highly doubt 2 x small tables are even close to that. The charges I mentioned above refer to clearance and delivery costs for commercial cargo, if you add another 60-100 USD Per m3 this should cover any FOB (Free on Board) Shipment from China from most ports. As you can see however AUD $ 550-600.00 Is far too much to pay... hence the courier option where it might only sting you a couple of hundred. Call Wayne @ Austmail first, he's a friend of mine and I refer a lot of small shipments to him.. he will get a couple of quotes for you, but make sure you have all the info.. I posted his number above. Cheers. Mitch
