It will still have a sticker, just not the Aussie one. But if you're not 100% sure, just get one from here somewhere. Speaking of which, I need to find a new open face :-)

I would think that insurance would find the loophole and tell you........very slowly because your brain is by now mushy from smacking it on the ground..........sorry sir but no money for you

I'd just ask my insurer . . . ?

Its your head/brain you are talking about here. Get one with aussie sticker, that way you are 100% you will have no issue.

Same as when people skimp and get shitty tyres on thier bikes, just silly.

How much of a saving are we talking here and is it a tested helmet sold in Australia?

The exact same helmets which are sold here can be bought from the US, but probably 30% cheaper.

I went through the same thing recently with my AGV helmet, but ended up buying in Australia as I'm a pussy and didn't want to risk any problems down the track.

The saving can be anywhere up to 50%, possibly even more if you buy one that is on special. In the US they sell last years stock cheaper on closeout to get the new stock in whereas in Australia they generally just leave the old stock on the shelf until it sells.

There are a lot of different helmet standards that most of the helmets comply with and then they are just stickered differently depending on where they are sold. Most of the helmets that are not certified to AS simply have not been tested as it is an expensive process to get a helmet approved (destructive testing etc.).

What exactly could happen if you use a non AS approved helmet?

If you have a crash and sustain a head injury with a non AS approved helmet, are the hospitals going to refuse you any medical assistance as a result? In an accident where a helmet is destroyed, any helmet is going to end up looking the same, whether its AS or not.

Has anyone ever had an accident and the helmet has been checked to see if its AS approved?

How often do the cops actually check your helmet, IF and when you get pulled over?
