Default What's the go with US motorbike helmets?

Probably not the right forum but seems like few of you ride so I'll ask:

Anyone purchased a helmet from USA without the AS1698 sticker?

Any insurance/popo problems.

I'm more interested in health/life insurance at this stage and whether they would pay out

No Australian Standard sticker, not legal for Australian roads. End of story unfortunately.
despite the fact that international standards, eg Snell, are in some regards more stingent.
If it doesn't have the sticker its not legal.

P.S. I 've been riding for 23 years.

What does stingent mean?
In: Uncategorized
Answer:

It's a nonsense word substituted for "conditions" used by stupid people who consider themselves smart. Whatever that is. Also heard: 'stingents' and highly 'stingent'.

Thanks for the lulz John

Well.................... When it comes to helmets, it's best to have the aussie sticker on it. BUT. If the helmet you have is the exact same model etc as one that would be sold and legal in this country, it is still ok. My Shoei is from the UK and is completely fine as they sold here also.

If the helmet doesn't have the A/S sticker, you can receive an on the spot fine.
You could probably fight it in court, but thats the law.

This is correct. The law requires that it be an Australian standards approved helmet or equivalent. So if you buy an American version of a helmet that is also approved in Australia you should be fine.

As with most things though, the cops can give you a fine for it and it is up to you to take it to court to get off. More info: Helmet Standards

As I said I'm mostly concerned with the insurance people, ie hit my head pretty hard and i won't get paid for my recovery/surgery etc

so if i buy exactly the same model/make from the USA with no sticker as per the above post i might get the fine but legally I'm OK?
