I know you're not being serious, but for those who don't know much about the subject at hand, they might think it is a solution.

Thanks for all y'all help guys

Tony, thanks for that link.. I've been looking at Freenet already so I'll give Rob a call.. the UltraRepeater looks interesting but may not be hardcore enough.

A pair of Yagi's with an AP on each end would provide mega range!

Depending on the gain of the antennas and the output power of the AP's, you can get a link to work over a few km's.
Seen it done a few times

Will most likely tell you to get a couple of yagis's (point to point antennas) and an access point on each end.

Should be set up like this from memory...
Internal network #1 ===> access point & yagi #1 ===> access point & yagi #2 ===> internal network #2.
+2 We used Freenet and bought some Proxim devices. They are bridged and move 270mbit over 600m perfectly.

Are there any laws on just throwing your signal across large distances and polluting the airwaves??

We are starting to use a new technology at work with Cisco AP's and Cisco wireless controllers called "Cisco CleanAir" whereby the AP's can "see" each others signal and dynamically adjust their power/output against a map so their only spread signalling within the restraints of the office/site.

Kind of the opposite of what you're trying to do though

Yes there are laws but if you stay under 5 watts and use domestic frequencies, it is OK.

We are in the process of putting up some motorolla dishes to beam a signal 23km away. We applied for a license with ACMA almost 8 months ago and we are still waiting. It is a long drawn out process so far.
