Lightbulb INFO REQUIRED: AC charger for MP4 player

Hey all...

I have an MP4 player ex eBay which, up to a month ago, worked fantastic. That is, until the charger blew . Seller no longer registered, etc etc.

Extensive search on the net reveals a few leads where this or a similar spec item can be obtained - unfortunately no responses to emails, or in one case (the only one who responded), won't sell charger separately .

I'm out of ideas - can any1 help me out here? Any suggestions from the electronics gurus? The specs are: 5V 2A with charging jack only 2.1mm wide, as per pic below. The other charging jack lower in the pic is a standard Nokia one for comparison.

Thanx in advance...

Dick Smiths sells a universal charger with a switch that allows you to change the voltage/ampage and also comes with various points so you can plug it into any electronic unit. Cost around $30 2 yrs ago

Been there champ... it's closer to 60 bucks now, and in any event none of the jacks would fit when I tried 'em.

Toyed with the idea that I could snip off the jack end of the blown charger & work it to fit the uni charger but for all the mucking around & $$ I would be better off buying another mp4 player just to get the charger (and bonus player!)

Jaycar can't help.... sort of. They have the same uni charger pack that DSE have (but at a much better price), so with that I'm back to square 1. Unless I go with the pack + a soldering iron... just not real keen on playing with stuff that 240V hasta go thru...

I'll try iRiver, but in the meantime do any electronics guys on here (surely there's a couple) have any brainstorms on this matter?

Pull the MP4 Player apart and swap the Jack socket out for one which will fit the universal DSE Charger, you dont eve need to be good at soldering, you will just have to touch the 2 points with a soldering iron and the old socket will slide out. Rinse and repeat for the new one.
