Looking for DJ information/Info...anyone with an opinion/experience
Hey guys,
I am just after a bit of info as I am currently looking into at getting into the world of DJ-ing. Had a search, but nothing recent and specific to the DJ controllers that I am looking at... Doing a little bit of research, I have decided that I don't want to go out and buy an expensive set of Pioneer CDJ's and then discover I don't really use it etc...so I am currently looking at some basic DJ controller/mixers to get started. I have narrowed it down to the following 3: Pioneer DDJ ERGO V review imixmag MIXTRACK PRO NUMARK DJ CONTROLLER MIX TRACK PRO | eBay eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d They all perform the same job, but run different software. I don't plan on using CD's or vinyl so that Is why I have opted for the mixers... The pioneer can run Serato Intro, Virtual DJ and Traktor Pro, which makes it the best for options in that department.... the cheapest I have seen it is on DJwarehouse for $489, I am looking at around that or below as a budget. if anyone has any experience or anything I have overlooked, feel free to share.... Just looking at something to do for fun, and depending on how much I enjoy it, and If i am any good at it...will see where I go Thanks

Anything that can run Native Instruments software is an instant +.
I actually make all of my music on the fly with a handy little tool called a Kaossilator. Hand held, runs off batteries yet if you know how to use it properly it's incredible. I've had everyone at a party going nuts with a half hour set on it. Has rca line outs or a standard headphone jack. Check them out if you're just gonna dabble. Although I might misunderstand what you mean by the term dj. If you intend on making your own music on the fly off other tracks or just mash up 2 existing tracks? |

I should have been more specific, DJ as in mash up 2 existing tracks, but I may have a go at making my own music, but I need somewhere to start out. I bought a little Numark mixtrack that I think is very similar to the Kaossilator, but it didn't have many features...

Try to find second hand gear, there will be 1.4 trillion others who wanted to be djs who gave up in 2 months.

Nah, my mates got one of those, the kaossilator is a stand alone piece of equipment. Comes pre loaded with heaps of samples to just over dub and erase as you see fit. My only issue with it is that its single track not multiple, no room for error. I'd be happy to show you it sometime if you want mate.
But if you're set on dj gear, I agree with TJ. Second hand is probably the best way to go. Quote:

Have you considered the s4 or s2?
I'm not a fan of numark gear, most of it is clunky and cheap - but there are a few exceptions. The twitch is a lot of fun also, it's sound output is a little down on it's competitors but that can be overcome and the slicer and looping is great. Out of the three you named the ergo is the best option, nice quality faders, but still nothing special |

Pioneer is a good layout, similar to cdjs and djms. It's a good starting point. Make sure you have a good laptop and a massive library of music or you'll be going nowhere fast
