Yes but the acherage plays a big part in it too seeing as a 308 round can kill till 1000 yards, you need enough room for that bullet to slow down and not hurt anyone if something goes wrong

rexcited is right on the money. Even if the property is big enough, if there are no vermin or reason for you to have a 308 you won't get one. And there is no set size either, the WA firearms branch specifically state this - its a "common sense" judgement

And you can't shoot roo's without a permit.

Minimum property size for calibre in WA - Shooting.com.au

Read that for some more info - WA has some of the tougher gun laws in australia, and they are only getting worse. goodluck

if thats the case i might aswell get it licenced threw a club and shoot at a club only, i know the laws are getting worse, even getting my pump action shot gun and revolver licenced is rough enough at the moment

yeah it sucks. It's hard but it would be worth trying to get the open licence now, you never know when the opportunity will come up to do a bit of hunting. Speak to gun shops as well, firearms are really inconsistent and seem to go through phases. For a while .308's will get through rather easily, and then they get strict and its next to impossible to get it through. The gun shops will be able to give you a pretty good idea of what will be the end result.

do you have any centre fire rifles at the moment or is this your first?

yeah you may as well try. Read the link I posted - be really descriptive and creative in your reasons, size of the game isn't all that matters it's also about effective range and humane kills etc. And don't put roo's down unless you have the permits or they will knock it back

I havent gotten my licence sorted for the same reasons, finding a property owner and all the hoops to jump through is too much effort for some one as lazy as me

Try the owner of Castle Invasion paintball (at the old dizzy lamb park site), I heard from someone who worked for castle that he is also a firearms dealer and sells rifles etc. and owns some big property and would write you a letter. Worth a shot

I might try that, I know all about the hoops, I
Got knocked back once for my reason for owning a pistol but 2nd time it went threw, isn't took me almost a year to get my license. I think they make the laws hard because it weeds out the people who arnt seriouse about the sport.normally people give up because it takes to long but the ones who have a valid reason stick with it.
