Default Laptop advice

I need to get my hands on a Laptop. The use will be fairly basic - watching movies & music, MSN, Microsoft Office, storeage of photos and general internet use.

I want Wireless, and a long battery life would be a positive attribute. I know very little about computers so some advice would be appreciated. Want to spend about $1,500-700. It's main use will be overseas (America) for 9 months, so I'll need an international warranty.

I'd like to have one that has Windows & Office included.

Any advice?

My brother got one yesterday from Dick Smith for $1300.

Hewlett Packard, 1.6Ghz, 15.4" widescreen, 60Gb HDD, 256Mb RAM (will upgrade to 512 very cheaply), DVD burner, integrated wireless LAN.....good deal I thought.

For the love of god no!!!!

DO NOT buy a Dell
DO NOT buy from havery norman!

For your price range you should look at an LG or Asus laptop. Toshiba are great too but a bit more pricey.

I am a systems engineer, and the laptop I use is an Asus M6a, it has everything your could ever need and only cost $1800.

If you seriously want advice and more info PM me. I can put you in touch with a guy who can get LG at cost etc

I used to be the same, but their new range is making a very good name for itself.

But again, personal choice, Asus
