New Dryer & Washer

Hello all,

Surprisingly I'm a whitegoods ludite. So the short version is dryer has died; top loader washer is decade old.

So what started as a simple replace dryer concept has been complicated by the fact of there's no window exhaust kits for the old school heat the clothes up to dry model. Further, limited space laundry. So, now it seems I'm up for a major stack able front load / condenser or heat pump dryer pair.

So before I drop a new turbo & install in cash does anyone have any opinions and avoidance statements on their recent models?

As a final note, we do a shit load of washing.

All opinions appreciated ... and NO I'm not baller enough to buy Miele nor do I care to ...

Thanks in advance.

Appliances Online take your pick. They will deliver, set up and take away the old washer and dryer too. Don't by a front loader washing machine.

magic1 09-05-2014 03:32 PM

time for a garage too.

GTB Liberty 09-05-2014 03:32 PM

Unless the dryer is wall hanging I'm fucked Dave it'll have to be front loader ... not getting rid of the beer fridge for a dryer. Reasons should be obvious :D

Parking my Ferrari at your house Tristan ...

Oh wait?

Recently bought a Bosch front load washer. Quite good, its really quiet. Was $1100 from Good Guys, 7.5kg model.
I bought my dryer last year, it's a Fisher & Paykel cheapie. The dryer exhaust can easily be plumbed up with some ducting either into your roof space or out the window. Scored that for $300-400?

Hardly Normal is cheaper than Appliance Online and I haven't even contacted Luddy yet.

Condenser dryer
Won't regret it
Exp but cheaper long run

Strubaru 09-05-2014 04:34 PM

we just got a 10kg samsung frontloader, its amazing, so quiet, can do massive things like quilts & its the same physical size as a 7.5kg washer, was $1100 from harvey norman, would recommend it in a heartbeat

toploaders fuck your clothes, get out of the 70's dave :D

our last frontloader lasted 14years, the drum now heats my patio hehehe

GTB Liberty 09-05-2014 04:49 PM

Just did the elec cost calculations on our average weekly 4 uses of the LG dryer heat pump version ... Close to $800 a year.

Fuck me "why why didn't I get the tune earlier" ...

American Dave 09-05-2014 04:59 PM

We have a 10 kg F&P front loader we bought last year
The wife says its shit. What would I know I never use it.

REXXXED 09-05-2014 05:07 PM

"Sam, can you put the washing on whilst I'm ........ ah fuck it I'll do it when I'm back home coz you wouldn't know what you're doing anyway!"

Speaking of which, our dryer seem's to have shat it today also, so will be watching this thread.

Strubaru 09-05-2014 05:12 PM

hahah f&p is the shit part mate

GTB Liberty 09-05-2014 05:17 PM

My F&P top loader has been used and abused for 12 years.

Sadly, there in lies a problem. 12 Yrs ago is not today's build quality.

TROLLEY 09-05-2014 10:28 PM

Bosch, Bosch, Bosch. Parents, Grandmother, Aunty and myself have all had various Bosch washing machines for over 10 years.

thebish 10-05-2014 07:25 AM

yeah bosch front loader and take your pick of driers, they're same same

do not buy a washer dryer combo

GTB Liberty 10-05-2014 08:39 AM

Whilst not a washer or dryer we have had nothing with ongoing issues with a Bosch water heater which has left a very sour taste of Bosch products.

Master D 10-05-2014 08:54 AM

We have a LG front loader.
It held up to 3 kids ( 2 boys) worth of washing then all my tradie life after that.
Office workers don't get dirty :-)

I'm looking at buying LG when I grow the hell up later this year.

GTB Liberty 10-05-2014 10:07 AM

Yea - so far the front runner is the LG 10Kg steam front washer and 9Kg Eco Heat Pump Dryer.

Amazingly, three load a week calculations have the energy saving at $1000 a year ... Makes the close to $4k purchase look palatable. Further being work deduction for Meg helps as well.

There meant to be stackable ... Why one is stainless finish and other is white is fucking beyond me. :-S

Certainly not the best but a long way away from the worst. Going from a top loader to a front it has to be better.

Strubaru 15-05-2014 07:19 AM

how heavy are the heat pump dryers? like can they be wall mounted? i can only see stack kits for them? is this what you got?

That's average for dryer use ... we use a line in warm weather. Total washes a week would be 5-8 total. Energy rating measurements are for one use per week. Our old dryer was a energy eater.

62Kg for the dryer ... stack only. No wall mount option. Fucking thing is heavy.

All in all it's obvious how little water the washer uses compared to top loader. Both units are quiet. Takes up less space and bigger capacities than our past machines. Pretty happy with the choice as long as they last ... time will tell.

I can cook, clean, sew, preserve food, bake, wash clothes, fold clothes, wash dishes, vacuum, etc etc and proud of it.

Unlike the majority, it seems, I don't see any of the above as being non masculine nor exclusively for "the wife" to do. It makes me a better and more capable person.
