If you want a newer car to use for personal then go for it - this does depend on the value of the vehicle allowance they are going to pay you.

Is the allowance equal to or greater than the finance repayments + running costs you expect to pay?

A new ute would be under warranty etc so only running cost is rego and servicing - on a tractor that might be 2 services a year or get servicing included in the new car deal.

So my issue is that I could buy an STi. In the long run it would cost me a fortune to have/run, compared to.

Free car is ok, I mean who complains about a free car right? , but the allowance would leave me approx $25 out of pocket each week for the loan repayment and the rego, insurance ill have to wear.
But to my way of thinking, I'd have to pay all the above even if I went and bought an STi and kept the free car. Difference is I guess I can claim all the extra running costs back on tax as it will be a work vehicle.
Correct me if I'm wrong but is that not the case?

I'm doing roughly 30,000kms a year on the road and private use is limited at best, technically though I'm on call 24/7, which means I need my car with me at all times ready to go if needed.

Master D as private use is limited all you really need to do is keep substantiation for expenses for fuel, insurance etc and that would be claimable against the allowance. as they are supplying fuel card this would make it easy. Really though, I suspect the better way forward is to have the employer provide the dual cab as a Fringe Benefit and each year you sign off saying limited private use. Depends on your income and how its done. Talk to your accountant or accountants at your work place might be able to help too.

Work supply single cab vehicles only, if I move up in the company I have to provide my own vehicle in which the above situation then applys, just the allowance increases.
