Windows Vista won't be out till January 2007 for consumers, I think it will be released to manufactures in December though.

I'm running beta 2 atm, then there will need to be RC1, RC2 and possibly RC3.

Oh and if anyones interested, make sure you have a decent system to take advantage of all the new effects they have put in it. It's a pretty little OS.

So if you can wait, do it

Edit: If you need updates, try this: http://www.autopatcher.com/

Just get the April 2006 full edition and then the June update and you are all patched up.

Hmm... I get all the updates - I just uncheck the Genuine Validation "update" . Installed it by mistake once..... System Restore came in handy here.

I've seriously considered buying a genuine copy of XP despite the imminent rollout of Vista; mainly coz Vista will probably cost big $$$. Also, there's gonna be like, 6 versions of it & I'd be wanting the top level . XP in my view is tried & proven and should be supported by Micro$oft for several years yet...

If you want a cheap windows to get you by till Vista (due Jan, realistic release about Jun)... just get xp home edition.

So many people say to me 'Oh i HAVE to have Pro', and 99% of them couldnt tell me the difference between the 2. For most people if you are not going to connect remotely to your computer (via Remote Desktop Connection), then yu dont need Pro.

I know that there are differences, what Im saying is that most people wont even notice them in the day to day use of windows xp...

You can network as many PCs running WinXP Home together as you can Pro. The differences are mainly all server related, so unless youre running a server, you dont need Pro...
