Built by myself over 5 years, is a full blown rally car and is Targa ready but have decided to run the WRX and keep the escort for special occasions.

Amazing!

Strubaru 26-09-2014 09:15 AM

oh man, this needs a whole build thread, love those guards & your custom floor pan, would be stiff as a biscuit no doubt

thehowlfactor 26-09-2014 09:25 AM

Awesome looking cars. Bit of an odd question though, with the car having the Rothmans livery would they be any problem running it in Targa with the anti tobacco sponsorship rules in Australia?

nauli 26-09-2014 09:28 AM

It looks fantastic! Was it built here in WA?
I have a vested interest since I have a MkII Focus RS.
Interestingly a good friend of mine built an almost identical (to yours) Rothmans replica in Victoria...it was finished a few years ago.

It's not often that Russ is correct but 10 points scored this time :D

Any videos of the rally escort in action?

TROLLEY 26-09-2014 03:08 PM

I would give anything for a RS2000.

Then engine transplant.

Then kill myself with it.

Yes, had a fight with CAMS over it and they made me sign a stat dec saying "I am not receiving money from the tobacco company" after they received that they issued the log book. However i'm sure each event will create issues but last few years the car was on show at Langley park on the Sunday of targa west and 2 years ago I was invited to do a parade lap so i think if nobody makes a song and dance about it, it"ll be ok. BUT if it ever did run in targa west I wouldn't upset the apple cart due to QUIT sponsorship and I"d remove the signage.

Yes I built it here and you mean Franks car?
Externally they looked similar especially after Frank replaced the fibre glass arches with alloy ones but my car is not just a pretty paint job, its built to the GRP4 specs (other than not having a BDA) and the new owner of Frank's car spent upwards of 100k to bring that up to GRP4 spec

A good unmolested 2 door RS2000 is now getting hard to find unless you have deep pockets, had mine for +13 years now and it's very rare she comes out to play. Between me and my co-driver we have x2 RS2000's, x1 GRP4, x1 rally pack. They are all the desirable 2 door and in immaculate condition. Hopefully we'll get all 4 of them out at Whiteman park next year.

Jezza 26-09-2014 04:09 PM

I almost bought an rs2000 about 7 years ago for $2000. Damn thing wouldn't start when I went to look at it, owner wasn't around, then it had sold too quickly.

Great cars.

rjb 26-09-2014 05:49 PM

Welcome aboard. That's a fantastic build you've got there. I absolutely love the old rally cars! My dream ride is an Audi Sport Quattro S1.

I bought a brand new white RS2000 back in 79, stupidly I liked 4 doors but in the end it was a better decision as 2 kids came along, I sold it for what I paid for it 12yrs later with 112,000K's on the clock.

It had a built motor by Rolly Waters years before he became RaceTorque, had twin Webber 45's, roller rockers, cam, exhaust, A008's etc.

Also had a 2 door Mk1, 2 door Mk2 and Mk2 van.

GX-REX 12-10-2014 09:38 PM

I had a few escorts myself. Was given a MK2 4 door that was smashed as my first car. Transplanted everything from that into a rolling shell that I bought from Racetune for $250.
Older brother fucked the rear suspension so I bought a 2 door for $450 and swapped the worked 1600 into that and put the stock 1300 from the coupe into the sedan and sold that on for $1000.
If only they were still that cheap...
