Default Red light cam

So I was driving on canning hwy today, lights turned amber just after macs and began to brake and came to a complete stop. Say about 10-15kph before I came to a complete stop the red light cam snapped 1 at me. wtf !

There were 2 other cars both on my left and right. Do I stand a chance if the cops insist I ran the lights ?

so you were over the line when it got you? I am guessing if you were and there were 2 other cars in the shot (which they will be as it would have taken a snap of the whole intersection) and the camera only took one photo then you will be fine. I have been at the traffic branch a few times and the camera takes continuos shots so I guess they can definately see that you ran the light, if there are several photos of you and you are in the exact same place in all of them, then you didnt run the red light in my eyes, however I am not the law If you do get a fine, go to traffic at plain and wellington streets and ask to see the photo(s).

Goodluck.

they normally take 2 photos, and they can judge by where you are in the second as opposed to the first how fast your going, if your only 10cm further forward in the second snap I think you'll be fine. but if you do get a bit of paper, complain !

Just to clear things up I wasn't over the line. I braked gently from far and it was like 10 - 15kph till a complete stop where the snap went off.

Funny thing was that theres only 1 flash and the drivers around me were wondering whats going on etc.

I'm gonna wait for the letter and appeal if they chose to insist I ran the lights.

If you didn't go over the line, then you might find that one of the other drivers edged over the line after the light went red...

I can say with much assurance that you will be fine. Camera section get heaps of these & the only ones that do get prosecuted are those who either completely go through (ie, run the red light) or are waa-a-ay over the line before stopping.

Absolutely correct.
I drive in peak hr traffic every day and have found myeslf sitting at idle in the middle of a red light many a time, and flashed - never had a problem.
if you're stuck in traffic theres obviously no other option but to sit there and smile, it's not your fault...

I've been told that a heap of the camera's around perth dont actually have camera's in them... just flashes..... kinda like a scare tactic.
Was told this by a couple of policepeople
