Default Lexus IS200 opinions?

Anyone got any first hand experience with the is200?

I wouldnt mind looking at something luxury for an affordable price and they dont seem like too bad of a car to the untrained eye.

Also, would you prefer it over an E46 318?

Thanks!

Slow as all fuck...

Instead of a highly tuned 3S-GE Beams motor, the Australian market got the boat anchor cast-iron lump they like to call the 1G-GE.

For those who dont know, this is the motor you find in mid 80s Soarers, but minus the twin turbos!!

Lexus = slow

318 = slower

seriously test drive both before. I did and hated it.

or like chee says drop a 2jz in there.

you can get capa supercharger kits for the beemer but they cost between 10000-15000 fitted and you might as well get a 323 - 325-330 for that kind of money.

hope that helps

My daughter who has experience with this class of car says:
These are not performance cars, the IS200 and BMW318 quite similar. The IS250 however has a better V6 motor, is more sophisticated, more reliable and better built than either its BMW or MB competitors. All are great for relaxing commuting, shopping trolleys and taking clients to lunch. The Lexus especially has the chassis/handling giving big scope for taking more power.

Get a 320i

It gets the 2.2l 6 - goes pretty good - heaps better than the 1.9 4 cycl.

and thats true, but in both cars you have to think 30-60 secs ahead before performing any kind of overtaking/time at risk manouver...

oh and if you ever feel like the odd spirited drive, forget it.

its a big leap down from a wrx, if you want a bit of dynamics lexus is the better car because of the piss poor bmw engine, if its class/prestige you want the beem.

I think it would drive you insane with the acceleration. i find the rex too slow so slower than that would be an abortion. + it would be like driving a boat, the sabb's are alright and the turbo models are pritty quick still nothing on a rex though
