Default Servicing modern cars on time rather than k's

What does everybody think about doing a service on time rather than km's?

I understand when oils were crappy that it may be a good idea, but with the oils we have now is it worth it?

My car is due for a 20,000km or 6 month service and I am at 14,000 is it worth servicing it already even though it only got done 10,000 ago?

Just want to guage peoples thoughts on this. I personally think its overrated but if I get convinced by what people think here, I will book it in.

Cheers

i think the kms is more important than time.. Unless u drive the car hard then u may need shorter service intervals.

I personally service the car based on km's travelled (or if I have been driving it like a madman ). In the extra couple of months it may take to reach the desired km's for a service, an oil or a component will not suddenly deteriorate causing you any issues.

Out of interest, my parents Merc tells you when it needs to be serviced, no more services by km or time, it just lets you know on the dash when it needs one. So I think km's and driving style play more of an importance on when to get the car serviced.

Our Mazda hit 'service time' over a month ago. It's still 4000klm away from needing anything though.

I'm going to change the oil, filters, etc before we drive down to Perth in a couple of weeks, but other than that it's not getting anything done for another few months at this rate.

warantee issues arise....its stupid but the manufacturers want to whatever comes first...or they could get all stupid on your warantee, if they are feeling picky.
