i got pinged for 64 in a 60 a year or so back and of recent a mate got 62 in a 60 a few weeks ago.

Thing is multanovas are suppose to be setup with a full checklist , calibrated etc, and i think the makers of the product itself recommend a tolerance of 3-5 km but i dont think thats ever passed on to the motorist, as in if the machine reads 67 then you were doing 67 not possible 62-64 as it might be.

You can try contesting it to find out if the camera was actually setup properly and calibrated properly when you got your ticket as this can be grounds to have the ticket dismissed, but last time i tried obtaining the info it would be $30 and a bunch of fkin around, just paid the $50 in the end. I guess thats the problem, we just take the easy way out.
I had heard somewhere that the camera's do not actually comply with
the Australian Standards (you know those little red ticks) for speed
measuring devices. Food for thought.

I believe there was one guy who didn't trust the firmware programming
in the system and so asked for a copy of the code to prepare for
his defence. Problem is that the manufacturer will not supply it due
to copyright and issues. I think the court threw the fine out in that case.

Not really speeding... But got pulled over today by a boozebus (of course everyone in front was allowed through but the rexie got pulled over)...

0% alcohol and then he starts walkin around inspecting the car lookin for somethin to pick on. Oh well, just doin their job.

TopGear 08-10-2006 07:25 PM

I dont understand this I have been through a few booze buses and have never been picked on, the last time was in south perth opposite the zoo and I was goin prety quik off the freeway onto mill point road at about 1 in the morning and got to the booze bus and he said he had reports of me abosutly thrashing it around the corner as they had police down there, I didnt have my latest rego sticker on either and told him I had it at home he let me off then he breathalised me and I was fine and told me that he wasnt going to book me and to drive slower :p

75 in a 60 is not what i would call a distraction.

Carnivore 08-10-2006 09:15 PM
It is.

0-9kms over = $50 and no points (although imagine getting pinged for doing 7kms over )
10-19kms = $100 and 1 pt
20-29kms = $150 and 2 pts
30-39kms = $250 and 4 pts
40+ = $350 and 6pts
i got a fine doin 95 in a 70 zone and i got 3 points and $150 fine?

slappy 08-10-2006 09:26 PM

you will probebly be right for a 50 buck fine. I have standard rims/tyre size on my bugeye and when my speedo says I'm doing 70 on the dot, my GPS says Im doing 67km/hr. The same for 100km/hr reads 3km less. I'm guessing the gps reads actual velocity.

Edit: the 3km slow speedo theory is backed up by my hot wheels radar gun too:)

Hmm maybe it is 3 points then! I've only had one of those fines (and LOTS of the others :D) so i was just thinking back to the pile of speeding fines!

Shall look it up hehe
huh.... ill have to get me one of those...... :p
They set off radar detectors too, but only on X band. Still for 25 bucks they are pretty accurate. Maybe the cops should get them so that when you get booked they can tell you your hotwheels speed as well as your actual speed.

Giddyup 09-10-2006 08:38 AM

0 - 9km/h = $50 - 0 points
10 - 19km/h = $100 - 1 point
20 - 29km/h = $150 - 3 points
30 - 39km/h = $250 - 4 points
40 - 45km/h = $350 - 6 points
45+ = your arse is mine.

I also heard that as of January, the fines will be up with the eastern states ie 40-45km/h = $1000 - 7points
