I think it's not fair for anyone to claim a price - an object is only as valuable as how much the purchaser thinks it's worth. It could be a 1987 Corolla but if the purchaser thinks it's worth $100,000, then it's worth $100,000.

Along the same line, which seller doesn't want to get back $ as they can? If the buyer isn't happy with the asking price (ie. doesn't think it's worth $X), don't buy it, simple.

We've all heard this, "For the same price, I can buy a stock WRX and put more mods on it." Well, good on you, do just that, nobody's stopping you.

probably 21k in NSW, cars are a little more expnsive over here. not quite worth 31k either, but people always assume you will drop the price, if you dont start high you dont get very much. if tristan asked 13k for his car, someone would still come around and offer him 12
