Depends on how many horsepower unit your looking at. Panasonic and Fujitsu are probably the market leaders. Steer clear of any dodgey brands as the skimp on the piping within the unit making them less effective.

If you can afford the extra dosh, try and get one with inverter technology, it will save on your power bill

Best to go with any name brand as long as it backed up with a decent warranty. This helps also if you ever need to get it repaired under warranty etc. Non name brands are generally hard to source parts for!

When looking out for a split system be sure to buy one that is suitable for your residence depending on the power setup. Most residences are single phase power but you can get caught out buying a split system with three phase but this will come at an extra cost for the install. Plus they chew more power!

Now depending on the size of Rms a bedroom would require 1 to 2.5HP whereas a larger area will require 3.5HP or better!

Coming from Darwin I would recomend fujitsu as a great brand, Lg has a good split on the market and they feature their jet cooling design which lets you cool the room down quicker, mitsubishi heavy industries are pretty good and Carrier are great too but as said before price will depend on the size you need.

Carrier are their own company a/c built overseas in the same factory as samsung and fujitsu but to carrier specifications there is also another brand built in the same factory that has been designed by one of the cofounders of carrier which is really good value for money but can't rember their name

The only aircon I recommend is Fujitsu, as i am a air-con technician I have worked on and repaired many brands over the last 9 years but I have never repaired a fujitsu air-con as yet. Goes to show Fujitsu is by far the best!!!!!!! .Any people wanting air-cons fitted or supply and fitted let me know...before the hot summer arrives.....cheers

Fujitsu has a full 5 year warranty on unit and compressor. Most other brands will only offer 5 years on the compressor, not the rest of the unit. Electrolux/Kelvinator are also quite good, but as i said, only offer 5 years on the compressor.

You then need to figure out if you want cooling only, reverse cycle, and then whether you want an inverter model. In Perth, the inverters are better suited as you don't really suffer a great deal from considerable humidity. Inverters are also more energy efficient.
