Bullshit!!!

The two years we've been there and hit up to 332kmh we never once encountered anyone else anywhere near the speeds we were doing. Most people cruise at 130-140 and you get teh occasional ute driver who sits on 170.

I would say those damn tourists in swerving caravans were more of a danger than a Ferrari or Lamborghini doing what they were designed to do.

Sure if we came unstuck at that speed it would've been all over, but its 11 or 12 cars a year that actually do it.

Spend some money on getting alcohol AWAY from the "natives" and enforcing seat belt laws better.....speed really isn't the major factor here.

We hope to get one more 300kmh+ blast in next year (Alice Springs to Darwin is the plan) before this happens, lets hope it gets delayed until then.

Everyone get there while they can, 330kmh in a road car on a public road with scenery flying past is a surreal experience!

We used to drive from Alice to Uluru in Camry and Commodore Hire Cars all the time when I lived in Alice, and mostly sat on 170-190kmh. Turns a boring 500km 5 hour drive into 3 and a bit hours. More than 11-12 cars a year go over 130km/h.

I was talking about doing 300kmh+ like we did, 130kmh is nothing.

You wouldnt get many cars doing 300kms+ (lets face it, when you look at all the cars in Oz, not many actually can) but you'd get lots of people sitting on 150-220kms. Like you say doesnt matter if you crash at 200 or 300kms, your gonna be fucked but you'd still get lots of people doing it over a year!

Its just a bandaid solution for other problems. Seatbelts are a major one as is alcohol amongst the natives. Together its a pretty deadly mix and alcohol education certainly isnt going to work.

The article doesnt say when it actually comes into affect tho!

Yeah we overtook cop cars at 250kmh, but doing it illegally will only be trouble when they catch up to you at the next fuel stop.

also speed limits in europe is more like speed advise, however notice the amount of deaths they have compared to us. However this can be due to that they have more people and therefore more cars per 1km squared than australia.

if we were to make our speed limits in porportion to other countries and take death toll, country area, population etc. into acount, then our limits would be like 50 on freeways!!!
