Set Top Boxes seem to work much better - I'd check out if you can find a STB with a D-SUB Out (the monitor connection).

Only down side to that is you can't watch TV and use the PC at the same time.

ive built a couple home theatre pc's with Windows Media Centre and i use the leadtek tv cards with good results. I hear the dvico ones are decent too but i havnt tried them myself.

Yeah dvico is a brand of tuner card, here are some more details:

Two different TV tuner cards have worked fine for me so far. AND they are the ebay cheapies... never had a hitch with em!

If updating all the drivers don't work, try uninstall/reinstall the tuner software.
