There's no immobilizer on the Aussie V6 ecu's (hence the early thin headed liberty type ignition key they have), all other aus 99-00 Gc's had transponder chipped keys.
You do need to do the cam & crank sensor wire swap to run the Sti ecu in a wrx though (same as when fitting a Pfc to a Wrx). My 1% PFC cold / hot start is the same as my stock ecu was. :) |
would a v3/4 sti ra computer be compatable or different altogether?

Ask yourself what you NEED for a street car. You don't need: Anti lag Launch control Rotational idle UNLESS you are building a monster HP engine / track car. I'm a big fan of Power Fc's for Gc8's, they retain all the factory ecu's functions (a/c idle up, power steering load idle up etc) but add a wide range of tune-ability. They have a hand controller to monitor temperature, boost, knock etc live, without the need for a laptop or $$$ proprietary dashboard. They are easy to install (plug & play) & a tune is about $400-500. Stock wrx with an exhaust & 1.2 bar will make about 190 -210 hp atw on a safe tune. You can find them popping up for under $1k used.
im hoping to get 200kw from my gc8, its stock but im going to mod it all in one hit, 3" TBE, vf35, equal length headers, processwest TMIC, processwest CAI, fuel pump and injectors. |
just in relation to the sti ecu going into a wrx, i searched and people were saying that the sti has an air temp sensor
would this affect car in anyway? flashing warning lights? i think someone said that the car would overheat or something like that and cause motor failure thanks in advance |
......... the car would overheat or something like that and cause motor failure
everything causes motor failure if you believe what you read on the internet. "I used upper engine cleaner now I popped a big end" "I vacuumed my car now it's got a headgasket leak" ......etc. Air temp sensor is probably desirable if you can be bothered running the extra wires, lots of pepole ignore it and they work fine. No check light. |
great, that's good to know
thanks for the information |

"I used upper engine cleaner now I popped a big end"
No bug love now I get no Doug love. I see no sense in going on :D |
may i add, thats applicable to stock ecu scenarios only.
not using air-temp sensors on a MAP based ecu (autronic/motec/link) is plain crazy. |
on the v5/6 ecu's the temp sensor is used to pull timing if the inlet (airbox intake) air temp exceeds 55 degrees, below this temp it does nothing.
The power fc allows you to map it's output to reduce both boost and timing, I've set mine to pull the boost back to 1.5 bar & pull 3 degrees of timing > = 50 degrees c to supress det. |
