i have had a search around, but i dont know anything about the different ecu systems. i was just hoping for someone with a bit of knowledge to break it down and explain it. i was told autronic is good but at around $3200 im wondering if there is something for less than that, that will do the same job?

3200?? hah! there was a thread on here where they were selling for 1700
ASG are power fc specialists and reflash verso
MMS are autronics specialists and reflash ecutek
Motecs are for all out racing and havent seen many microtech ecus in wrx's.
With GC8 your cheapest option would be power fc, they are direct plug and play. Although they dont retard timing ad they dont have options such as antilag or rotational idle.
You get what you pay for.

Verso and EcuTek are not hardware, they are simply cracking the code and re-writing the software that is inside the existing ECU that the car already has. (where possible)
This has advantages and disadvantages.
All the others you mentioned are replacement engine control units that can be reprogrammed to your desired settings using the software that comes with the unit.
MoTeC and Autronic are the high end of the market with advanced features. Power FC, Microtec, Link etc are less expensive and offer varying degrees of features.
