Default ECU options for MY00

Hey guys, have had my MY00 wrx for 1.5yrs now and have never had it tuned. It has a link ecu in which i got told that it needs a software upgrade to even be able to tune it and so was suggested to me to just get a new ecu!

What ecu do you think i should go with? And what kind of price am i looking at?

Really depends on your application. Id assume non-track orientated. Im pretty sure you can get ECU-TEK which is a piggy back computer for the GC8. Other cheaper, more well known options would be PowerFC and newer Links. PowerFC's are becoming quite expensive as they are no longer in production by Apexi and are becoming rare to find. Ive heard of $1400 and upwards for a powerfc. I personally dont think its worth that much, but then again i paid $920 deliv. to my door.

You will also have to bargin in some tuning time aswel so atleast 4 hours id say for a plug and play, plus tune. $80 an hour thats $320 for installation plus tune without the cost of the ecu (depending what you go).

Mate I have a very early link and Sean down at ASG tuned it a few weeks ago no problems, if you must buy a new ecu I would be looking out for a Autronic PNP 2nd hand or if rich buy new.

erm, ecutek is a reflash. not a piggy back.

id go power fc. great base maps (less time needed for tuning idle and start up etc). look for one second hand.

If your Link is a Version 5 Posom Link, you should be able to get an alright tune out of it. Mine was tuned to 240bhp at the wheels with mild mods. If not, Autronics would be a good option.

ive got a possum link V5 which was tuned by ASG.......

i dont think you need to upgrade at all...
you can still buy parts for these ECU's, eg, anti lag circuit-boards, laptop connection cables.. etc.

who told you you need a new ECU? --- was it an ECUtek vendor perhaps?

RXqME,

If you have a PossumLink ECU already in your car - believe me it has been ..even partially tuned to get your car running in the first place.

As has already been said by others - someone is trying to sell you something and thats the very reason you've been told you need a new ECU.

Your V5 PossumLink should be entirely tunable by a competent tuner.

AntiLag on these ECU's does not work well - it really a wank factor mod anyway unless you are doing lots of Tarmac/Rally events.

Go and talk to Sean at ASG or Leigh at Revlimitms.com.au and you will get a good tune out of the Link you already have.
Use only these two for Possumlink Tuning.
