Use a small-ish aperture to get the whole car in focus f7.1 - f11 or so, use ISO 200 if needed, the 30D has no more noise at ISO 200 than ISO 100 in daylight and I'm happy to prove it.

Try not to freeze the wheels on the cars or it will look like they are parked on the track (unless the cars are getting air born wheels after hitting the ripple strip, in this case the fact that there is a wheel in the air will demonstrate speed and add enough drama to your shot) keep the shutter speed below 1/300 or so.

Use your burst shooting mode and set the camera to 3 fps if 5 fps is eating your card space too fast.

Thats all I got really and it seems all pretty much common sense but it is easy to get carried away with the excitement of being there and you dont think about your shooting.
Great advice, I would also add changing to a single spot focus (I always use the centre spot, seems to be the quickest) and also change to either AI Servo focus or continuous (forgot the actual name of it) focus setting.

Have fun!!

i'll be there taking pics..

cant offer any more advice other than what has been. dont be afraid to jack up the ISO if there is cloud cover and ur lens wont allow u to shoot fast enough.

spot metering is best for car detail and large crop shots. over metering for wide open shots....

One more important thing, CONDITIONS OF ENTRY into the event.
"Patrons must not, without the prior written consent of AGPC, have in their possession at the Event, or bring into the Event, any of the following items:

any photographic, video or audio recording equipment AGPC deems
unacceptable for the purposes of Condition 15 below, which may include
(without limitation) audio recorders, camera tripods, monopods or lenses with a total focal strength of greater than 300mm and digital video equipment."

"Without limiting any action available to AGPC pursuant to the Act or any amendment
thereof, it is a condition of entry to the Event that:
(a) a person cannot make or reproduce or use any film or other form of moving
picture, still pictures, photographs or any sound recording or any of them
(Footage) of the Event or any part of it for profit, gain, public advertisement,
display or for any other purpose except for the private enjoyment of the person
making the Footage, without the consent of AGPC, FOM and / or FOA; and
(b) if a person makes or reproduces or uses such Footage of the Event or any part of
it with or without the consent of AGPC, that person must on request by AGPC
assign, in writing, all copyright and all intellectual property in the Footage to
either AGPC, FOM and / or FOA or their assignees as directed by AGPC."

So you will have to leave the 100-400mm at home and hide your 1.4x and 2x tele converters! Also take some ear plugs, I like the sound of a f1 car as much as the next guy but take some anyway.

I'm back - took 500+ pics over the weekend - got no idea how they turned out, got to download them first - need sleep!

I'll post some up in a few days - no skanky shots either - very disappointing off-track chics this year.
