Canon IXUS 900ti - Anyone seen/have one of these?
Hi again all,
As the title says... Looking at changing my current p+s, it decided to take a suicide jump with no provocation http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Canon-IXUS-90...QQcmdZViewItem How's that for price? Good? Bad? Cheaper elsewhere? What have you seen them going for elsewhere? Any comments about the camera itself? .. Why shouldn't i buy it? Luca.

I have always been impressed with the ixus compacts.
The ixus 900 ti retails for around $650 so if that one is the real deal its a great price. |

A review,
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsd900/ Price might look good, but be aware that so called 'international guarantees' are not worth the paper they're printed on. Canon Australia will not honour any warranty claims on goods not purchased through their local distributors. Basically if it packs up you're up for the cost of sending it back to Hong Kong. Having said that I've had an iXus 400 for over 4 years, and over 5600 photos, dropped it / got it rained on / used it in snow / had it chewed by rats and it still functions perfectly.. |

Hmm ixus it is.. But which one?
There's so many to choose from. I want something thats good in low light conditions as well. Anything ixus, 6MP and above.

if you want something which is good in low light conditions, without a tripod, then look for a camera with an Optical Image Stabiliser, as this minimises camera shake you tend to get in low light conditions.
I'd still say one of the Canons would be a good pick. I also have a Panasonic FZ-7 which has an OIS, but IMHO my iXus 400 takes better photos in low light, despite being only 4 megapixel and an old model without an OIS. The trick is to keep it stable, and avoid camera shake, which is exacerbated by low light as the shutter stays open for longer. (I lean it against a solid object, like a handrail, and use the 2 second timer to take the shot, so the camera doesn't shake when the shutter opens, Use this technique, even if you have an OIS, and the photos turn out pretty good) Best bet is to go into a camera shop and play around with a few cameras that you like. but browse the dpreview website first and narrow it down to a few specific models I like this one actually, the iXus 950 http://www.dpreview.com/news/0705/07...nonsd850is.asp It's got a 4x optical zoom with image stabiliser, it's only 8.0 megapixels but personally I find 6 megapixels is enough for what I need, cause I've never made prints bigger than A4.. It's a new model though, so it might be harder to get a discount.. Last edited by Pinky; 04-06-2007 at 06:37 PM. |

Thanks mate, ill check it out ..
Gets hard keepin it steady during a hard night out That's life. Ill check out some of the other ixus' .. Reason of iffyness about the 900ti is that it doesnt have the OIS. Too used to p+s cameras that do, like my old Sony.

I think that's why I like the iXus range, small enough to be a handy point & shoot, but with a decent amount of manual control for landscape photography and the all important car shots!!!
They look beautifully made as well.. |
