Default Rotating large .Tiff files

Howdy All, I'm having some issues rotating rather large .Tiff files (Aerial photography) in Photoshop.

Photoshop is giving me an error saying something about "parsing the file", i presumed this was because the file was so large, so I selected only a small section of the file (Using ER Mapper/ER viewer) and opened the smaller section in PS, and had no issues rotating what so ever.

Unfortunately, this isn't really an option considering the large number of files i need to work with. Does anyone have another suggestion for rotating large (>30000x30000) images.

Thanks in advance

What machine are you working on? I'd imagine there would be hassels enuf working with a file that large unless the machine was spec'd up...

Anyhow, I usually only see that message when opening a file that is wrong format or has wrong extension appended to file. Are you getting the error message when opening the image or does it open fine and then give you the warning when you try to rotate it?

How are you saving the image from the mapping software? Can you save out in a different format and try again? Can you try to copy image to clipboard (shudder) and paste into a new PSD?

Roating via Edit/Free-transform or Transform? Or via the move tool? Not that it explains anything, just trying to test it out here. I created a file of those dimensions and everything worked fine so no quick answers...

Scratch disks perhaps? Although its the wrong error message....but may be worth ensuring Photoshop has enough capacity to work with the image. Throw on an external drive to use as extra scratch disk.

Have you assigned Photoshop as much RAM as possible (in Preferences - Performance).

Thats it, I'm out of ideas for the time being....
